Fabuwood vs Forevermark Cabinets: How They Differ and Which One Fits Your Project

The short answer

The biggest difference between Fabuwood and Forevermark is range. Fabuwood offers a framed series and two frameless series, with more door styles, gloss and matte slabs and deeper color runs. Forevermark keeps things simple with a plywood box, soft-close hardware and a short list of Shaker-led collections. At Land of Cabinets, Fabuwood comes assembled, and Forevermark can be ordered either assembled or ready-to-assemble (RTA).

Both brands sit in our Richmond showroom side by side, so we field this question every week from contractors and homeowners. Here is what actually changes between them, and how to decide.

Assembled or RTA: how each brand arrives

Fabuwood comes assembled at Land of Cabinets. Forevermark gives you the choice: order it assembled, or order it RTA to save on the box and build it on site.

Assembled cabinets show up as finished boxes. Your installer unpacks them, sets them and moves on. That saves hours of labor per kitchen, but the boxes take more room on the truck, in the garage and in the house while you wait to install.

RTA cabinets come as flat panels in a box. Someone has to put each cabinet together before it can be hung. That adds labor time, but flat boxes are easier to store, stack and carry up stairs or into a tight unit.

A few practical points to weigh:

  • Who builds the boxes. If your crew assembles RTA cabinets regularly, the extra step is routine. If not, budget the hours, or order assembled.
  • Space on site. A full kitchen of assembled cabinets fills a garage. RTA boxes stack in a corner.
  • Checking for damage. With any order, open and inspect every box before installation. At Land of Cabinets we need a photo of the cabinet before it goes in, a photo of the damage and the cabinet size or code, and the report has to come before installation. Once a cabinet is installed, there is no damage claim.

If you want the bigger picture on flat-pack options, our ready-to-assemble cabinets page compares the RTA brands we carry, Forevermark included.

Box and door construction

Both brands use plywood boxes in their framed lines, so neither one is a particleboard budget cabinet. The details differ.

Fabuwood

Fabuwood’s Allure series is a traditional American framed cabinet: a solid wood face frame on a veneered plywood box, solid wood drawers with dovetail joinery, and doors with solid wood stiles and rails around an MDF center panel.

Fabuwood also makes two frameless series. Illume is European-style, built from furniture-board panels with BLUM concealed hinges and metal drawer boxes, with slab and wide Shaker doors in gloss or matte. Ovela is American-style frameless, built from plywood with a natural wood interior and solid wood dovetail drawers. Both give you a full-access, flat-front look that Forevermark doesn’t offer.

Forevermark

Forevermark’s catalog lists the same standard features across all styles: full overlay doors, 1/2″ A-grade plywood sides, top and bottom with wood veneer, concealed 6-way adjustable soft-close hinges, dovetail drawer boxes, and undermount full-extension soft-close glides. Shelves are 3/4″ all wood. Door frames are solid wood (maple, oak, eucalyptus or birch depending on the style) or MDF/HDF on painted styles.

Forevermark says its cabinets meet or exceed the ANSI/KCMA A161.1 standard, with third-party testing of structure and door and drawer operation, and that all its cabinets meet EPA emissions standards. Several Forevermark styles also carry GREENGUARD Gold certification.

Door styles and finishes

This is where the two brands feel most different in the showroom.

Fabuwood spreads its looks across three series: Allure (we show Galaxy, Fusion, Luna and Nexus doors), Illume (Catalina in gloss and matte, plus Tuscany) and Ovela (Catalina, Tuscany, Siena and an aluminum glass door). On our Fabuwood cabinets page you’ll see whites and grays, blues like Indigo, wood tones like Timber and Desert Oak, and high-gloss European finishes like Bianco Gloss and Grigio Gloss.

Forevermark stays closer to Shaker. Its Shaker collection covers whites (Vista White, Ice White), grays (Lait Grey, Greystone, Nova Light Grey), Xterra Blue, Blaze Black and wood looks like Homestead Oak and Woodland Brown. The Petit collection adds a slimmer, more contemporary profile in white, blue, sand, brown and oak. Gramercy, Signature and Town round it out with options like Gramercy White, Signature Pearl and Townsquare Grey. Browse them on our Forevermark cabinetry page.

If the client wants a slab door, a gloss finish or a frameless look, that points to Fabuwood. If the plan is a clean Shaker kitchen in a popular color, both brands can do it, and the decision comes down to assembly, budget and lead time.

Warranty: read the brand’s own terms

Each brand writes its own warranty, and the terms matter more than the headline.

Fabuwood’s Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the first residential purchaser of Allure, Illume and Ovela cabinets bought on or after October 1, 2024. It isn’t transferable to later owners, and Fabuwood states that it doesn’t apply to commercial, rental or multi-unit common-area use unless Fabuwood approves it in writing.

Forevermark describes a limited warranty of two to five years on parts and hardware for material and workmanship defects under normal use. Its catalog notes that painted door styles carry the two-year term and that the warranty applies to residential use at the original site of installation.

If the cabinets are going into a rental property, read both documents before you choose. We keep links to each brand’s warranty on our warranty page.

Which one suits your project?

Rental units and flips

For investors and property managers turning units around Richmond, Forevermark is often the practical pick. You get a plywood box, soft-close hardware and dovetail drawers in neutral Shaker colors that rent and sell well, and you can order it RTA to keep box cost down or assembled to save labor. Flat boxes are also easier to stage across several units. Ask us about volume pricing on multi-unit orders.

Homeowner kitchens

For a family kitchen where the owner wants more choice, Fabuwood gives you more to work with: more door profiles, deeper color runs, two frameless series, and cabinets that arrive assembled so the install moves faster. The Limited Lifetime Warranty on the main lines is also written around the person who lives in the home.

Builders and contractors

Many of the contractors we work with use both. Fabuwood for client-facing kitchens and upgrades, Forevermark for spec work, basements, laundry rooms and budget-sensitive jobs. Mixing brands on one project is fine as long as each room uses a single line.

Questions to ask before you order

  • If you’re ordering Forevermark, assembled or RTA? Who will assemble RTA boxes, and how many hours does that add?
  • Do you need a slab, gloss or frameless look? If yes, that’s Fabuwood.
  • Is the property owner-occupied or a rental? Check the warranty language.
  • Where will the cabinets be stored before install, and is there room for assembled boxes?
  • Do you need staged deliveries across several units or phases?

Frequently asked questions

Is Fabuwood better than Forevermark?

Neither is better for every job. Fabuwood offers more door styles, gloss and matte slabs and two frameless series, while Forevermark offers a plywood box and soft-close hardware in mostly Shaker styles. The right choice depends on the look you want, your budget and whether you want assembled or RTA (Forevermark comes either way).

Are Forevermark cabinets made of plywood?

Yes. Forevermark’s catalog lists 1/2″ A-grade plywood sides, top and bottom with wood veneer as a standard feature on all styles, along with 3/4″ all-wood shelves and dovetail drawer boxes.

Does Fabuwood come assembled?

Yes. At Land of Cabinets, Fabuwood cabinets come assembled, so your installer can unpack and hang them without building boxes first. Forevermark can be ordered assembled or RTA.

Which brand is better for a rental property?
