Kitchen cabinet cost in Richmond, VA (2026): what drives the price
Kitchen cabinet cost in Richmond, VA comes down to a handful of choices: how many cabinets the layout needs, whether you buy them assembled or ready-to-assemble (RTA), the brand and line, the door style and finish, and the extras inside the boxes. Delivery, countertops and installation then sit on top. Any single “average price” you read online is a rough national estimate, not a quote for your kitchen.
This guide walks through each factor in the order it tends to affect the total, then explains how to get a real, itemized number for your kitchen project.
1. Linear footage and number of boxes
The biggest driver is simply how much cabinet the room needs. Price is built cabinet by cabinet, so a quote is really a list of boxes: base cabinets, wall cabinets, tall pantry or oven cabinets, an island, plus fillers, panels and molding.
- More boxes cost more. An L-shaped kitchen with an island has more cabinets than a single wall.
- Taller wall cabinets cost more. Going to the ceiling means taller wall cabinets or stacked units.
- Specialty boxes add up. Corner units, sink bases, oven and microwave cabinets, and pantry cabinets usually cost more than a standard base of the same width.
- Trim is part of the price. Crown molding, light rail, end panels and fillers are often left off rough estimates.
Good measurements keep this under control. A layout that fits the room with fewer, wider cabinets can cost less than one with many narrow ones.

2. Assembled vs ready-to-assemble (RTA)
RTA cabinets ship flat and are put together before installation. Assembled cabinets arrive built. RTA is often chosen to save on the cabinet price and on lead time, but someone has to spend the hours assembling them, so count that labor in your comparison.
At Land of Cabinets, Fabuwood and Décora are assembled lines. Forevermark, L&C, Tribeca, J&K, Timberpeak and Wellkraft are RTA, and Forevermark can also be ordered assembled. Our RTA cabinets page covers the RTA lines, and the kitchen cabinets page compares all eight brands.
3. Brand and line
Within one brand there are usually several lines at different price points. The same white Shaker door can sit in more than one line, with different box construction, drawer hardware and finish options. When you compare quotes, compare line to line, not just brand to brand. Ask which line is being quoted and what is standard in that line.
4. Door style and finish
The door is what you see, and it changes the price.
- Style: A simple Shaker door is common across many lines. More detailed profiles, glass-front doors and slab doors with special finishes can cost more.
- Finish: Painted, stained, glazed and two-tone finishes are priced differently. Two-tone kitchens (for example, a dark island with white perimeter cabinets) mean pricing two finishes.
- Glass and open shelving: Glass inserts and matching open shelves are usually extras.
5. Box material
Ask what the cabinet box is made of. Plywood boxes and boxes made from other engineered materials (such as particleboard or MDF) are priced differently, and the material affects weight, how the box holds screws and how it handles moisture. Box construction quality is worth comparing alongside price, especially for sink bases. Check the spec sheet for the exact line you are being quoted.
6. Accessories and organizers
Inside the box is where budgets quietly grow.
- Drawer bases instead of door bases
- Pull-out trash and recycling
- Roll-out trays, spice pull-outs and tray dividers
- Lazy Susans and blind-corner pull-outs
- Soft-close upgrades, where not already standard in the line
Each one is a line item. They are often worth it, but add them on purpose, not by default.
7. Hardware
Knobs and pulls look small on a quote, but a kitchen can easily need dozens of them. Price depends on the finish, size and count. Our cabinet hardware page covers the Jeffrey Alexander and Hardware Resources pieces we carry, which you can hold next to your door sample in the showroom.
8. Countertops
Countertops are often priced separately, but they are part of the kitchen budget. Material (quartz, granite, quartzite, marble or Dekton), brand, color, edge profile, cut-outs and seams all change the number. The template is typically done after the cabinets are installed, so the tops fit the cabinets in place. See the materials and brands on our countertops page.
9. Delivery
Delivery is easy to forget until it shows up on the invoice. We deliver for a flat $300 anywhere in Virginia, whether the job is in Richmond, Virginia Beach or Northern Virginia, with no minimum order. Deliveries run Monday to Friday, curbside or garage, and we can stage deliveries for phased jobs. Details are on our jobsite delivery page.
10. Installation
Installation labor is a separate cost from the cabinets. Installation is available through our contractor network. We don’t quote labor ourselves, so get the installation price from the installer, and make sure it covers assembly if you choose RTA.
